At first glance, he's simply a cheerful old Santa carrying his sack of presents. Then his entire upper half comes off. Vintage Christmas was apparently comfortable with a little drama.
This unusual two-piece Santa opens at the waist to reveal a hollow compartment inside the blue pants and boot-shaped base. Santa wears a red coat with white trim and blue mittens and carries a sack of presents over his shoulder. The removable upper section turns the figure into a charming holiday candy, treat, or small keepsake container.
The piece is unmarked, and the maker and exact age are unknown. Its painted finish, construction and wonderfully quirky design give it the kind of personality that works beautifully in a collection of older Santas.
Condition: Vintage condition with visible age and use. There is paint loss, rubbing and chipping, particularly around the rim where the two sections meet, along with scattered surface wear elsewhere.
