There are children's toys, and then there are children's toys that look like they have already raised several generations.
This vintage wooden spring horse retains its wonderful red-painted body, black saddle and bridle graphics, wood frame and exposed coil-spring suspension. A surviving factory stencil identifies it as “The Wonder Horse” and includes Nashville, Tennessee along with patent information. The simple painted horse profile, worn seat and visible mechanics give it the kind of honest vintage presence that modern reproductions work very hard to imitate.
Today I would consider this primarily a collectible or display piece rather than a toy for active children's use. It would be fantastic in a vintage toy collection, photography studio, shop display, nursery display where it is not being ridden, or anywhere that can appreciate a horse with this much mileage.
Condition: Heavily used vintage condition with extensive paint loss, scratches, edge wear, oxidation to metal components and general age-related wear. Springs and frame are present, but the piece has not been safety tested for use by a child. Sold as a collectible/display item.
