This is exactly the sort of little box that makes us wonder who sat down and decided a peacock, ducks, a turtle and assorted botanical flourishes all needed to live together. Whoever it was, I approve.
The rectangular wooden box is hand-decorated in a pyrography or wood-burned style, with a large peacock on the lid and additional birds, flowers, foliage and a turtle worked around the sides. The result is charmingly handmade rather than factory-perfect, which is very much the point. It would make a wonderful trinket box, desk catchall, display piece or addition to a folk-art collection.
Condition: Good vintage condition with scratches, scuffs, finish wear, discoloration and other signs of age and use. Decoration remains clearly visible. Construction and lid show age-related wear.
