Before cordless everything, app-controlled everything, and leaf blowers loud enough to alert three counties, there was the April 1961 issue of Popular Science promising that new yard machines could “Turn Work into Play.”
The wonderfully colorful cover is packed with mid-century lawn equipment, including a leaf vacuum, lawn sweeper, sod aerator, power hoe, flexible drive machine, and even a baby bulldozer. The top banner teases “Biggest Car Crash — How It Happened,” because apparently one cover needed both suburban yard work and vehicular catastrophe.
This is a great display issue for collectors of vintage magazines, mid-century advertising, lawn and garden history, engineering ephemera, or anyone whose garage has opinions.
Condition: Well-used vintage condition. The cover and spine show significant wear, edge loss, creasing, rubbing, and old tape repairs. Sold as a collectible reading/display copy rather than a high-grade magazine.
