Apparently trousers once had better furniture than most of us do now.
This antique Imperial Trouser Hanger was made by Pynchon & Co. of Philadelphia and is clearly marked “PAT. NOV. 27 '00.” The ornate cast mounting plate sits above a series of long metal rods designed to organize or suspend trousers, combining genuinely useful hardware with the sort of decorative flourish that vanished from closets somewhere along the way.
The patent marking gives this piece an excellent historical anchor and makes it appealing to collectors of antique clothing hardware, early closet fittings, industrial design and Philadelphia manufacturing.
Condition: Antique condition with oxidation, patina, discoloration and surface wear to the metal. Hardware and rods show age. No restoration has been performed. Function beyond basic movement/assembly has not been tested.
