This little case has had a rough century, but it brought receipts.
Inside the oval spectacles case, the surviving satin lining is marked H. Jasset & Co. with Petrograd, Moscow, Kiev beneath the name and a small emblem above. The use of Petrograd gives the piece an especially interesting historical clue: St. Petersburg carried that name from 1914 to 1924.
The case measures approximately 4 inches wide and appears to have originally had a covered exterior, much of which has worn away with time. The lower interior lining is also missing, exposing the underlying construction.
Condition: As-found antique condition with heavy exterior finish loss, wear, staining, deterioration, loose threads, and interior lining loss. The branded satin inside the lid remains present and legible. This is being offered for its age, history, surviving branding, and wonderful timeworn character rather than pristine condition.
A fascinating little survivor for a collection of antique eyewear, optician memorabilia, historical packaging, or beautifully battered objects.
