This pitcher has everything farmhouse decor keeps trying to recreate: weight, texture, a moody blue glaze, and an actual cow.

Standing about 8 inches tall, this substantial stoneware pitcher has a gray-blue salt-glazed surface with darker cobalt decoration, impressed scroll bands, and a raised cow medallion on the front. The ribbed handle and heavily textured glaze give it the wonderfully imperfect look that only comes from an older piece that was made to be used, not merely styled next to a cutting board.

The underside is unmarked, so I am resisting the antique dealer's favorite temptation of confidently assigning it to a maker based on vibes alone. Similar cow-relief salt glaze pitchers are generally associated with the late 19th to early 20th century farmhouse pottery tradition.

Condition: Good antique display condition with crazing, firing irregularities, glaze variation, and scattered age wear. No maker mark is visible on the base. Review photos for rim, glaze, and surface condition.
