She arrived dressed for an occasion, surrounded by poppies, and apparently decided 1907 was going to be her year.
This lovely early 20th-century portrait depicts a fashionable young woman in a soft blue dress with vivid red flowers at her bodice and in her hat. The loose watercolor-like treatment gives the image an airy, romantic quality, while the ornate oval gilt frame adds exactly the right amount of old-world flourish.
The image bears a visible signature that appears to read “L. Monnin” or similar and is dated ’07. Because the signature has not been independently verified, we are leaving the artist attribution open rather than inventing a biography for someone’s great-great-aunt with a paintbrush.
The frame measures approximately 11 inches across and makes a beautiful addition to a vanity wall, romantic gallery grouping, or collection of turn-of-the-century feminine portraiture.
Condition: Antique/vintage condition with visible age, dust, surface marks, and wear to the gilt finish. Image shows toning and minor spotting consistent with age. Please review photos.
